EDGE IS PROUD!
Three of our students--Travis Mann, Jessica Cheston and Stephon Cheston--attended “The Summer Bridge Program”
at St. Augustine’s College this summer. All three were selected by the Dean to be part of a core group of 30 students to represent Saint Augustine’s College as Ambassadors. Travis was awarded a full
scholarship and he also won “The President's Award.” Travis and Jessica will major in Engineering & Mathematics. Stephon will major in Biology. All three will return to St. Augustine’s on August
18th to continue their education.
Thank you Juvenile Crime Prevention Council for making this possible!

Excited EDGE grads begin college!
Jessica Cheston, Britany Allen, Travis Mann, and Stephon Cheston moved into the dorms of Saint Augstine’s College in
Raleigh, NC, earlier this month. The four EDGE grads are attending the private 4-year college’s summer Bridge program, which is designed to ease the transition from high school to college. They will
continue on at St. Augustine’s as first-year students in the fall. Thank you to the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and Dr. Barbara Newborg for giving EDGE the funds to cover the costs of sending our
students to college!

EDGE receives award for collaboration!
EDGE received a “Best Collaboration” award for its work with the CFDL Durham Raiders. Together, these organizations
have supported promising athlete and student Travis Mann in graduating from EDGE with his GED in May 2008 and moving on to attend the summer Bridges program at St. Augustine’s College. With ongoing
support from EDGE and the Durham Raiders, Travis will continue at St. Augustine’s in the fall. Durham Raiders coaches and board members have been working with Travis since August 2005 to provide him with
the opportunity to play football, gain healthy life skills, give back to his community through service learning activities, and - through their partnership with EDGE - obtain his GED. EDGE provided
Travis with the academic, social, and financial support he needed to obtain his GED and to begin his pursuit of a bachelor’s degree at a four year college. This is a dream come true for all parties and
another sign of hope for the youth of Durham.

EDGE stocks up for college-bound students...
EDGE has begun collecting donations of school/dorm supplies for EDGE grads making the transition to college. We would
like to maintain a stockroom of supplies that would meet all of the college/dorm needs (e.g., linens, refrigerators, office supplies, computers) as our graduates begin their college lives. See our wish list for a complete list of items needed. Please feel free to call or email us with any and all donations.
