Our Services:

EDGE offers education, career exploration, and personal development services:

  • Education: EDGE offers small classroom settings with qualified instructors and tutors in an atmosphere that promotes  learning. Each applicant is tested to determine their academic aptitude and tailor a course of instruction that meets each individuals need. We also use our state-of-the-art computer lab to strengthen students comprehension and basic computer skills. Students attend academic classes Monday through Thursday and Friday's are allocated for leadership and professional development.
  • Career Exploration: EDGE offers guidance for students considering college and/or vocational training.  EDGE participants receive training in resume writing, interview etiquette, communication skills, personal inventories, conflict resolution, workplace diversity, and problem solving. As students enter the workforce, we plan to develop a feedback process that will enable ongoing communication with employers to ensure that youth stay on track and receive ongoing support as needed.
  • Personal Development: EDGE emphasizes accountability, discipline, and integrity. We strive to provide our students with opportunities to develop strong leadership skills, both in the classroom and in the community.  All students are required to participate in a community service project that has a positive impact on both the student and the larger Durham community. These projects enable our youth to help the community as they rebuild their own lives.

Students and graduates from EDGE receive services indefinitely to ensure their success within and beyond the EDGE program. Follow-up services include college placement, job assistance, counseling, and other alumni services.
